The rather long wait since the last update is down to things progressing largely as expected....or at least within doctor's normal expectations.
Selina has been in 3 week cycles, 1 week with steroids, an intrathecal injection and one dose of i/v chemo, and 2 just with blood tests. Although her neutrophil blood count is now back a little below 1 (meaning we must keep her at home), it had been fairly healthy and stable, so we managed to get and about a few times which was a great morale boost for us all.
The pictures below are from a few different weekends visiting Victoria Peak Garden, a hiking trail on the Peak, Hong Kong Uni campus and a friend's development. While Selina's blood counts were holding up and before it started heating up in HK (as it now has) we made sure to get out when possible. While most of the time she is chirpy and enjoying being at home, she does get knocked out by the intrathecal and remains a little melancholy for a few days. Going to hospital is a mixed experience.....she sometimes gets to see her friend Katrina (who's within a few weeks of Selina on the same protocol) but sometimes she is sat on a plastic chair for hours with the chemo infusion attached.
Through all this she remains stoic and mature about much of it, including still having a very restricted diet. Friends travelling from the UK have helped by bringing out baby food which provides a little variety for her. But we cannot see inside her mind.....we cannot feel what she feels, we cannot suffer what she suffers. We thank God that one day there will be no more suffering and, somehow in His perfect wisdom, the suffering she is going through and the tears we are shedding will be turned to joy. So we must keep on running....or scooting.
